Palm Trees

Palm trees do very well in the desert Southwest and several varieties can be found here.

Mexican Fan Palms - Cold hardy to 18 degrees, grows to 100 feet high, trunks are about 10-12 inches in diameter and bulge at the ground, becoming slender near the leaf crown.

California Fan Palms - Very cold hardy trees, growing to 60 feet high, trunks can reach up to 3 feet across. Great Palm for the desert Southwest.

Windmill Palms - Very cold hardy trees to 5 degrees F, grows slowly to 20-40 feet high, with an 8 foot wide crown.

Canary Island Date Palms - Cold hardy into the upper teens, slow grower to 60 feet with large pinnate leaves that may get up to 18 feet long.

Sago Palms - Very slow grower, only cold hardy to 15 degrees F, best suited for contaners on a protected patio and taken indoors for the winter.
